It seems like everybody and their mom is into yoga these days. Which is actually pretty great, if you’re like me and are just now starting to get into it. That means there’s a plethora of resources online for ways to practice yoga in your most comfortable space; at home! But it can be a serious disappointment when you look into beginners yoga videos and find that you need modified poses and simpler stretches. Something more accessible for those of us with larger bodies or who need guidance on modifications. So, I looked into it and guess what? These resources do exist! I created this list of people who are doing the damn thing and showing us what fat friendly yoga looks like!
Before we get into it, lets talk yoga mats.
Now, standard yoga mats tend to be fairly narrow and thin. This means the floor feels harder on bodies of size. Check out some extra wide and extra thick yoga mats online. This one from YogaAccessories boasts a 50% increase in size to traditional yoga mats. And this one from Clever Yoga has “high density padding” so your knees don’t hurt afterward. Awesome! Grab yourself one, watch some of these videos listed below, and you’re well on your way.
Heads up – these folks have many videos that vary in skill/ability. Find one that works best for you and where you’re at!

Websites for your accessible yoga needs
Yoga Download is one of my absolute favorites, though their streaming service does cost $12/month. Its pretty reasonable though, considering they have hundreds of videos with varying levels. The two I personally love most are Gentle and Accessible Yoga and Wheelchair Seated Yoga. You can try either of those videos for $5 and see if you like their style!
Buddha Body Yoga is a pretty sweet resource I found while doing my research. They are located in NYC, however they do have an accessible yoga class that streams live every Saturday morning! They also have some great tips on supportive yoga tools you can use to make your yoga experience more accessible.
